Consumer rights
Know your rights and shop with care in Timor-Leste.
Your rights
Timor-Leste’s Consumer Protection Law No. 8/2016 protects consumers buying from professional suppliers. It covers safety, quality, truthful information, economic interests, protection from misleading advertising and access to remedies. Occasional private sales may be treated differently.
Before you buy
Ask about the seller, condition, defects, total price, delivery and any warranty. Inspect the item when possible. Keep the listing, messages, receipt and payment evidence.
When something goes wrong
Contact the seller through Messages, explain the problem and request a solution. Where the law applies, remedies may include repair, replacement or refund, depending on the circumstances. Seek help from Timor-Leste’s consumer-protection authorities or a qualified adviser if unresolved.
Report unsafe or misleading listings
Open the listing and choose “Report this listing”. Sign in, select a reason and describe what happened. BukaSosa moderators review reports; a report does not replace a complaint to the authorities.
BukaSosa’s role
BukaSosa connects buyers and sellers. It does not hold payments or offer an automatic refund guarantee. Agree payment and delivery directly with the seller. This summary does not limit your legal rights; consult the law for details.
