How to trade safely on BukaSosa
Practical steps for buying and selling safely in Timor-Leste.
Inspect the item before paying. Never share passwords, PINs or OTP codes, and avoid unexpected payment links.
Meet safely for COD
Meet in daylight at a busy public place. Tell someone where you are going, inspect and test the item, agree on the price, then pay. Leave if you feel unsafe.
Watch for scam signals
Pause if someone pressures you to pay a deposit, claims you must pay a fee to receive money, or sends an unexpected payment link. Open your payment app yourself; do not sign in through a link in chat.
Protect yourself as a seller
Check your own bank or payment account before handing over an item. A screenshot or receipt sent by a buyer is not proof that you received payment. Do not refund an alleged overpayment before verifying it.
Keep your account private
Never share your password, PIN or one-time verification code, even with someone claiming to be support. Avoid sending identity documents or your full home address to strangers.
Report and block
Use Report on an item, seller profile or chat. Choose a reason and describe what happened without including passwords or payment credentials. You can also block the account to stop messages; your chat history is kept.
If something goes wrong
Stop the exchange and save the listing, chat and payment evidence. Report the account to BukaSosa. If you sent money, contact your bank or payment provider promptly. If you are threatened or in danger, contact local police.
